2024 GMC Sierra Revealed
For the 2024 model year, GMC is planning a number of changes for the Sierra. Its exterior is getting a fresh face with a new grille pattern for each trim level. It also gets more premium materials inside the cabin. One of the most notable updates is the new 13.4-inch tablet-style touchscreen with split-screen capability.
Similarly, GMC is planning to refresh the interior and exterior of the Sierra HD. The new truck will compete against other heavy-duty trucks, like the next-generation Ford Super Duty and the RAM Heavy Duty. GMC has also added the Denali Ultimate trim, which is a premium version. However, the company did not release pricing information yet.
The engine is also getting some improvements. The 6.6-liter V-8 engine will still produce 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, but the new turbocharger should improve the response of the truck. A new engine management system and revised combustion chambers are also included. GMC claims the new engine produces 25 percent more torque than the outgoing Duramax diesel engine. The new V-8 also features a 10-speed automatic transmission. GMC says the transmission is matched to the engine’s power curve.
The 2024 GMC Sierra is expected to be released in late 2022. The vehicle will be the third all-electric vehicle produced by the company, and it will be priced lower than the Hummer EV. With that said, the price will be within the reach of general pickup buyers. As of now, the company has released just one image of the car, along with a nearly eighteen-second video of the exterior lighting sequence. It’s not clear whether or not the base model will be available in the US market.
For this model year, GM dropped the 900 platform and moved it to the K2XX platform. This allowed for a higher horsepower and torque output from the 5.3-liter V8. The new engine also enables drivers to tow more than 36,000 pounds. The new Sierra 1500 will be offered in several trim levels: basic SLE, the rugged Elevation, the balanced SLT, and the luxurious Denali.
The interior of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD has also received a makeover. Its base trim now features new colors for upholstery and stitching designs. Higher trim levels add more luxury and tech features. The Denali Ultimate trim, for example, features a wood and saddle leather interior, as well as metal speaker grilles.
The base model of the GMC Sierra 1500 features a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. It’s also available with a 4.3-liter V6 engine. There’s also a new six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The Sierra 1500 also comes with Super Cruise technology. This is a subscription-based service, and the Denali Sierra trim includes three years of Super Cruise service.
The refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD pickup truck will begin arriving in dealerships during the first quarter of 2023. It will be followed by the all-new AT4X version later in 2024. Pricing details will be announced closer to the start of production.
